In that role she reviewed applications ranging from newly qualified nurses to consultant-level clinicians, and picked up a very clear sense of what makes a clinical CV stand up to scrutiny versus one that gets quietly set aside.
Healthcare hiring works differently to most sectors, and Olivia is careful about that. NHS and pharma recruiters are looking for specific evidence such as clinical governance experience, revalidation history, and GMC or NMC registration details, and if those are missing or buried in the wrong place, a strong candidate can be overlooked before anyone even reads their personal statement. She spends a lot of time making sure that evidence is easy to find without turning the whole document into a wall of jargon, which is a balance she says takes most writers a while to get right.
She is also particular about tone. Clinical CVs can slip into dense, formal language that reads more like a case file than a personal document, so Olivia pushes clients to keep some of their own voice, especially in the personal statement, while still hitting every box a panel is trained to look for. She has strong opinions about person specifications and will usually ask to see the actual job advert before she starts writing, rather than working from a generic template.
Olivia is based in Sheffield and has ten years of combined recruitment and writing experience in the sector. Clients often come to her mid-career, applying for their first consultant or senior leadership post, and she says those are the projects she finds most rewarding, partly because the stakes for the client are genuinely high.
